The Earned Value Management System (EVMS) provides a mechanism for identifying potential problem areas and taking affirmative action to correct them. It relies upon the parameters of Budgeted Cost of Work Scheduled, Budgeted Cost of Work Planned, and Actual Cost of Work Performed and uses Variance Analyses to measure the performance of contracted work. The EVMS is widely used internationally, and is growing in application for large projects.
