Arctic Shipping Summit 2010

The key industry event for Arctic Shipping professionals took place in Helsinki on 26-29 April 2010

The 6th Annual Arctic Shipping summit took place in Helsinki from 26-29 April 2010. The leading industry event of the year, organised by Informa Maritime Events saw leading experts in Arctic Shipping from a diverse background assembled to discuss and analyse critical developments and practical challenges, including:

• Strategic concerns, security and sovereignty in the Arctic
• Developments in transport and exploration in Russian Arctic, North America and Greenland
• The impact of climate change on potential navigation conditions
• Challenges of ice management operations for offshore vessels
• Technical challenges for design of ice-going ships and icebreakers
• Stakeholder discussion on current status of training for ice-going crew

Highlights in 2010 included:

Roundtable discussions: Five themed breakout sessions on key topics ranging from dynamic positioning in ice to emergency response which allow more in-depth analysis of the topics and interactive discussion.
Breakfast briefings: 2 well received updates on recent research into the environmental impact of shipping in the Arctic regions, and technology for propulsion shaft seal and bearing system designs for ice-class vessels.

Two technical streams: separate streams on Arctic LNG shipping, and performance and design of icebreakers and offshore vessels.
Problem solving panel discussions: Multi-stakeholder panels will examined the crucial questions of ice-going crew training, ice management for offshore operations and the strategic concerns of security, sovereignty and the environment.
Industry poll: Conference attendees shared their views for a snapshot of industry's views on the future of Arctic shipping, development and investment.
